TIBET "On the Roof of the World"

This once in a lifetime experiance adventure takes you to one of the most magnificent places on earth.

Mountain passes higher than 5.000 mtr, cultural highlights as the Photala Tempel in Lhasa, the Tashilunpo in Shigatze, the Fort of Gyantze to name only a few and for sure the Mount Everst are waiting for you.

Stunning views on selected routes with these vintage sidecars gives you the ultimate classic adventure feeling of old time explorers and their expeditions.

Duration is from 12 - 16 days. Group Size 4 People minimum.

Tour start from Shanghai or from Lhasa or Kathmandu and includes Inland Flights, Hotels, Food, Soft drinks, Sidecar, Fuel, chinese driving license, local guide, entrance tickets, permits. Basically everything you need for this time.


Here an example of a tested Sidecar Tour in "Central Tibet", 12 Days, start in Shanghai

1. Day:

We fly from Shanghai to Lhasa. Arrival Time is early afternoon and we drive with our own Bus in the Hotel (3 Stars, chin. Categorie). The height of 3.800 mtr, have an effekt on our bodys, so we rest a bit and walk slowly into the old town, the Barkorstreet.

                                              

2. Day:

We stay in Lhasa to adjust further to the height. After breakfeast you visit Potala Palace und get entchantet by its atmosphere. In the afternoon we get our chinese temporary driving license from the local authorities.

The Sidecars are waiting for you and the introductions starts.

         


3. Day:

Today we drive along the Bramaputra River right into the Mountain world. The Kambala Pass (4.800 mtr) and the Yamdrock Lake which is one of the holliest lakes for the tibetians, will give you the first unvorgetable impressions. We continue further to Nangartse and stay in a basic Guesthouse. Driving Distance about 170 km on tarmac.     

              

4.Day:

With the Engines warmed up we continue to our first 5.000 mtr. Pass, the Karo La and the Clacier.

We have time for breaks and taking photos. The Fort of Gyantze welcome us from far away. Later in the afternoon we go and see the "Kumbum" (Tempel of the hundret thousand Budha Images). Hotel 3 Star. Driving Distance about 120 km on tarmac.


              

5. Day:

We drive trough the narrow alleys of Gyantse up the steep road to the Fort and enjoy the great view from up there to the valley.

On the road to Shigatze we pass by huge fields and we see the farmers with their Yaks waving to us . The Tashilhunpo Tempel (Residence of the Panschen Lama) you can visit in the afternoon. Hotel 4 Stars. Driving Distance 140 km on Tarmac.

6. Day:

From  Shigatze, over the Gyatso La Pass (5220 mtr.) into the Himalaya National Park to Shegar (New Tingri). This day is dedicated to the stunning mountain world and give us the possibility to do some remarable divertions. Hotel 3 Stars. Driving distance 220 km on tarmac. 

7. Day:

In the darkness before sunrise we start to the Mt. Everest Basecamp. The 100 km rough unpaved mountain road is a bit challenging but with steadiness and patiance we reach in the morning the Pang La Pass with over 5.000 mtr and see first time the whole Himalaya mountain range. We stay overnight in a tibetian Family tent, with a oven in a middle and enjoy the rustic atmosphere. Driving distance 100 km, unpaved mountain road.

8. Day:

After we peal out of our sleeping bags and blankets, we have time to enjoy the highest mountain on earth in the morning.

We visit the highest monestary, the Rongbuk.

The way back lead us over the old base camp road into a absolutely unforgetable adventure to the outpost of Tingri. A very basic guesthouse out of the time of Sir Hillary give us shelter and we can enjoy the Stars at night shining over us. Driving distance 110 km unpaved mountain road.

9. Day:

Sakya the former capital of tibet in the 13. century is our goal for today.

The magic atmosphere of this place is encanting us and we have time to walk around. We stay in a tibetian style guesthouse. Driving distance 130 km on tarmac.

10. Day:

On the way back to Shigatze we visit some remote villages and monestaries with less visitors. Our local guide gives us some insights into the tibetian culture. Hotel 4 Star. Driving distance 120 on tarmac.

11.Day:

Via the northern route we ride back to Lhasa. On the way we visit the "Sanddunes" on the Plateau and rive through the canyon directly on the Bramaputhra river. With our own parade into Lhasa we finish our unforgetable trip. Hotel 3 Stars. Driving distance 260 km.

12. Day:

In the morning we have time for some shopping befor you fly back to Shanghai or another location. Eventually you want to stay some days more or even take the chance to go back with the Tibet Railway.


This Tour can be extended for another 2 days and then include the Namtso Lake (highest lake on earth) and some more nice Off-Road roads.


On the Lhasa - Kathmandu route, we continue after the 9. day further west to Zhengmu, near the nepalese border, and then to Kathmandu.


Zhengmu is the starting point for the West-Tibet route to lake Manasowar and Mt. Kailash. This Tour is not tested yet and has more the character off an expedition.
